My Drug Addiction Story

Untitled

Lagos, Nigeria.

My name is Junior and I would like to share my experience with drugs and my journey to recovery.

I was a bright chap, jovial, friendly, outspoken, everyone had great expectations of me and I was confident about the future. This brightness however started to go dim when I came in contact with drugs about 8years ago. I started with marijuana then rohypnol/the blue pill, codeine and Colorado which is synthetic marijuana.

My academic performance began to deteriorate. The boy that was popularly known as bright and lecturer’s favourite started having issues with every single one of them. All that mattered at the time was getting high and spending time with my drug-friends. I later realized they ain’t really real friends they'd rather buy you drugs than get you food to eat. I knew from the first semester of the first year that I was going to repeat the year. Getting back home, I began to falsify results for my parents because I couldn’t bear the disappointment if they found out as they had great expectations of me. The relationship with my family started getting strained. I always wanted to be alone, I became reserved and it was pretty obvious that something was wrong with me but I hid it for as long as I could.

I progressed to a full blown junkie and in order to fund the addiction I started  pilfering from many source, I could even steal from a visitor ; I did the unthinkable. I would be rude to anyone once I was on drugs, this went on for quite a while. I couldn't concentrate in school, I went through 4 universities and wasted so much money and time. I eventually developed a number of health issues particularly with my heart despite just being in my twenties.

Things started to change when I had a connection with AddictionGuideNG, it was then I realized how much drug addiction had taken from me and how much I needed to save what’s left of my life. Not that I didn't know about the effects prior to this time, but I began to see things differently. The counseling, tasks, follow ups, encouragements, constant reminder and spiritual development has set me on the journey to recovery and I would love to thank Dr Tosin for this. The journey wasn’t easy because I had to deal with withdrawals, I couldn't sleep at some point, couldn’t eat normally, I had breathing problems, lack of focus, itchiness, constipation and sometimes diarrhea. But it got better after the first few weeks.

All glory to God I have gone over 3months without drugs, something I used to desire 24/7. I no longer have withdrawals, I'm now great with my parents, they trust me with money now, my academics and relationships have greatly improved, I have become more accountable with authorities. I have so much inner peace and joy, and have never felt healthier.

I would like to advice anyone struggling with any addiction that recovery is possible with the right support and you would have all you need at AddictionGuideNG. One important thing to note is that God loves you, believe in him and He can make an edifice with your life.

I have had exponential spiritual growth, the Journey to recovery is surely not sustainable without God. I am burning for Jesus, I pray with ease, sing worship songs in my heart, always bubbling in my spirit. AddictionGuideNG has also been feeding me with spiritual books and tips, making my spirit really obese and I have been growing in the grace of God. It's been God all the way. Glory to God
